Widespread in all of Sardinia, these sweets have an ancient origin connected to the celebrations of baptism and marriage.
Even today these dome-shaped sweets are witnesses of a delicious custom. The initials of the newborn or of the spouses or alternatively some delicate decorations are inscribed on the icing that covers them, so they have the appearance of a special “bonbonnière”.
The Tre Janas Copulette, as the best tradition would have it, are prepared with a purple pastry dough, expertly worked by hand, in which are included a soft and sweet filling of saba, the traditional grape juice cooked with orange peel and decorated with a special icing.
